A Washer Warns You Before It Floods

It starts as a shirt that comes out wetter than usual, a rumble that only appears on the spin, or a damp patch under the front lip that dries by evening. Left alone, those turn into a failed bearing or a laundry room under water. Washer repair booked at the noise stage is a suspension part; booked after the flood it is a bearing and a floor.

A+ Appliance Repair and Maintenance covers front-load, top-load, stacked and compact machines across Chicago and the western suburbs — including closet installations and second-floor laundry rooms where a leak reaches the ceiling below.

Where the Water Is Coming From

Water on the floor is almost never the tub. On a front-loader it is the door boot, the drain pump housing or a split hose; on a top-loader it is the inlet valve or the pump. We pressure-test before quoting so you are not paying for a guess.

The Repairs We Do Most

Top-load machines

On the Whirlpool and Maytag platform, a washer that fills but never agitates is the shifter assembly nine times out of ten. It is a known wear item, it travels on the van, and it is normally a single-visit repair. The lid lock switch is second on the list and is frequently mistaken for a control board failure.

Front-load machines

Drain pumps and door boots dominate. Bearings are the one repair that can cost more than the machine is worth — on a newer or premium machine it is worth doing, on an eight-year-old budget unit it usually is not, and we will tell you which side of that line you are on before ordering anything.

Stacked and closet installations

Common in the condos and townhomes around Yorktown and through Bolingbrook. These are serviced in place; we do not need the unit pulled into the hallway first. Mention building access and elevator rules when you book so the visit is scheduled inside them.

Washers We Repair

  • Front-load washers, including stacked and under-counter installations
  • Top-load machines with and without a centre agitator
  • Washer-dryer combination units and compact 24-inch machines
  • European platforms with water softeners and integrated dosing
  • Light commercial machines in small laundries and multi-unit buildings

What Washer Repair Costs

Diagnostics are $79 and credited to the repair. Most washer jobs finish between $199 and $450 depending on the part: shifters, lid locks, drain pumps and door boots at the lower end, control boards and bearing work at the top. Because the common parts travel on the van, roughly four out of five laundry calls are completed the day we arrive.

Why Choose A+ for Washer Repair

  • Leaks get pressure-tested, not guessed at — you pay for the part that is actually failing.
  • Common parts on board, so most repairs finish on the first visit.
  • Straight answer on bearings, including when the machine is not worth the job.
  • Written warranty on the part and the labour.

Frequently Asked Questions

My washer fills but the drum never moves. Is that the motor?

Almost never. On top-loaders it is the shifter assembly that moves the drive between agitate and spin — a known wear item, stocked on the van, usually fixed the same visit.

Why does my front-loader smell even after cleaning it?

Front-loaders trap water in the door boot and the detergent drawer. A proper service clean of the boot, drawer and drain filter solves most of it. If the smell survives that, the pump housing is holding standing water.

Is a drum bearing worth replacing?

On a premium or recent machine, yes. On an older budget unit the labour alone approaches the price of a replacement, and we will say so rather than sell the job.

My machine walks across the floor. Is it broken?

Usually not. Check that all four feet are level and that the shipping bolts were removed at installation — a surprising number never were. If both are right, the suspension is the next thing to look at.

Can you service a washer in a second-floor laundry room?

Yes, and a leak up there gets priority scheduling. Water on a first floor is a different urgency from water in a basement.
